Home / Pilot Training / Course Information
The ICARUS Training Course has been designed from the ground up to provide you with the information and skills you need to become a competent and safe Commercial UAV Operator. Whatever your skill level, whatever discipline, we will provide you with the best start within this exciting and expanding market.
With handpicked instructors from the best Central Flying School and military flying instructors who all have thousands of hours flying in various military aircraft, through to the best Commercial UAV Operators in the industry today you can rest assured that the training you will receive really will be second to none!
With the instructors being Pilots too their ethos is one whereby they wish to improve flight safety through education. The ICARUS course and recommendations to the CAA are run directly in-line with the current rules and regulations. What does this mean to you? ICARUS don’t charge extortionate fees to examine your operations on every aircraft in your fleet, unlike some of their competitors, and they will examine you in each relevant weight class and flying category. If you pass, you will be able to operate any aircraft within that class.
INCARUS even provide pre-flight training to help you get up to speed on your platform as quickly as possible.
The course is split into three parts;
Theory Course
Consists of a two and a half day course including the 50 question multiple choice exam. This will teach you the required information to be a competent and safe commercial operator.
Operations Manual Submission / Review
There are many horror stories out there when it comes to writing Operations Manuals but fear not, ICARUS are here to help you every step of the way, they even let you view their manual whilst on the course in order for you to get a good idea of the level at which to pitch your document. Remember, your Operations Manual is there to help you and only contains information which is relevant to YOUR operations, you won’t be asked for obscure or irrelevant information which can turn the production of your Operations Manual into a nightmare; unlike some of their competitors
Operational Evaluation
The final phase of the ICARUS course will take the form of a client request for aerial work on a mutually convenient date. You will sent a request, much the same as that which you will likely receive from someone once you have your PfAW. It will then be over to you to use all of the tools and techniques you learnt on the theory course, to plan, execute and de-brief the task safely whilst remaining within the rules and regulations laid down by the CAA. During the Operational Evaluation, you should expect a couple of emergencies to be given to you at some point by the examiner, and you will need to demonstrate that you are reasonably comfortable flying your aircraft in ‘ATTI’ mode.
Finally, upon successful completion of your Operational Evaluation, your ICARUS Examiner will complete the required paperwork to recommend the issue of a PfAW to you by the CAA!
