The Sony ZV-E10 II - Your New Content Partner

Create your Cinematic Stories with the Sony ZV-E10

The Sony ZV range is well known for their dedicated vlogging features, so it gives us great pleasure to introduce the Sony ZV-E10 II. With an upgraded sensor, the latest imaging processor, an improved focusing system as well as 4K 60p recording, 10-bit colour and a whole host of creative looks, this really is a highly capable and portable camera designed for single person shooting.

Weighing in at 379 grams with both the battery and memory card installed, the Sony ZV-E10 II sees a slight increase in size over its predecessor but maintains the familiar look and design.A big improvement to the body for us is the deeper grip making it much more secure in the hands, but this also houses the upgraded battery, the MP-FZ100 that's capable of powering the camera to take over 600 images or approximately 130 minutes of video. on a single charge. Shooting is simple using the bright 3-inch, very angled LCD screen, which now allows for complete touch control, making changes on the flight much easier.

At the heart of the Sony ZV-E10 II is a 26MP APS-C Xmoor R sensor and the latest Bionz XR imaging processor. This combination is the backbone to the ZV's performance, allowing 4K recording up to 60p along with 422 10-bit colour and all-intra compression.

In 4K at 30, 25 and 24p there is virtually no crop to the image. and the footage is over sampled from the 6K sensor, so your content is always rich in detail. The sensor's design incorporates a 759 point auto focus system, which blends both face detection and contrast detection methods to achieve a focusing performance that's fast, natural and accurate. The on-chip focusing system covers a whopping 94% of the imaging area, a whole 10% increase from the original ZV-E10. There is of course real time IAF that will prioritize both humans and animals to ensure maximum sharpness throughout your frame.

Borrowing the cinematic vlog feature from the ZV-E1, the Sony ZV-E10 II can now bake in the top and bottom bars to create a cinematic feel to your footage. This creates a cinematic effect, transforming standard 16:9 videos into a more immersive format. This feature will help to streamline your editing process by eliminating the need to manually add the black bars during post-processing, saving you time and effort. as you can simply transfer and share your content. To aid your instant creativity there is a whole host of cinematic and creative looks pre-installed in the camera, giving you the flexibility to style your content in different ways. A massively popular choice is S-Cinetone that's found on Sony's cinema line of cameras and optimises skin tones whilst providing a film-like colour to your videos. S-Log3 is also available resulting in a pretty dull footage, but when post-processed you can explore the extra information that's been captured in both the shadows and highlights.

One of our favourite features on the ZV series of cameras is blurry background or the defocus button. Pressing this does exactly what it says on the tin. One moment you can be in front of the camera showing off your scenery with both yourself and the background in focus. Then with a quick press of this button, you can blur that background and become the main subject of your content. On other cameras you would have to manually change the aperture's value to create this effect, but this is such a simple and easy to use mode on the Sony ZV-E10 II which results in a professional looking video, completely hassle free and ideal for anyone starting out.

The other easy to access mode button activates product showcase mode. This mode is ideal for anyone creating content where you need to hold something up close to the camera that you wish to focus on. For example, it's great for makeup tutorial videos, detailed figure paintings, or product videos much like this one, where you want to be on camera talking, but not necessarily the focus of your shot. Sony's Eye Auto Focus is amazing and clearly the mode that you want to use whilst in front of the camera, but it's not so great when it comes to holding up an item to show your viewers because the camera just won't refocus until you block your eyes. However, in product showcase mode, you can be the subject talking away. And when you hold up an item, the camera will detect this and automatically change the focus to it, even if your eyes are still visible. What's even cooler is that you can combine both defocus and product showcase mode together and create a really shallow depth of field with a smooth focus pull.

To shoot our first look video we were using the new 16-50mm kit lens, which has an equivalent 35mm zoom range of 24-75mm. This power zoom lens can be operated via the rocker switch on the camera that surrounds the shutter button or via the lever on the side of the lens. This updated lens sees an improvement to its stabilisation coordination with the cameras, its tracking capabilities while zooming in and out. along with being able to focus up to 120 frames per second, seen on Sony's speed demon professional camera, the A9 III.

Using the 3-capture microphone built into the Sony ZV-E10 II, we can manipulate where we want that audio source to come from. When set to front-facing mode, it's eliminating the audio from down the sides and around the back of the camera and picking up sound from directly in front better. In full 360 so you'll be recording sound from all around, what's in front of the camera, behind the camera and all the ambient sounds around. In redirectional mode the camera will pick up my voice of the operator better and this is ideal when narration of the scene is primary, but you still want to pick up the ambient sounds of other subjects in frame.

Of course Sony have built-in Wi-Fi for high-speed data transfer, as well as the option to connect directly to a network for live streaming, eliminating the need for a separate smart device. You can simply connect the camera online and start streaming. In addition, there is an upgrade when using the USB connection, allowing for a 4K 30p video output for high quality streams.

Sony ZV-E10 II is perfect for vloggers and content creators who want to upgrade from their phone of fixed lens compact camera. With its APS-C sensor and interchangeable lenses, you have the ability to shoot professional looking content and customise your setup for your next adventure. With 4K video up to 60p, built in creative effects, quick and precise focusing, the new kit lens and a better battery, the Sony ZV-E10 II provides creators with a powerful system for solo shooting.
